"A Wrinkle in Time"- Text to All
by: Madeline Seashols

Summary
Imagine traveling in time from one galaxy to the next. That is what Margaret Miller and her little brother Charles are doing.  "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'engle is a story about how Margaret, Meg for short, lives a normal life, but her father is a scientist and went on a top secret mission and she doesn't know where he is or what he is doing. They haven't been able to communicate for about a year and Meg is getting nervous and concerned that her dad is in trouble. Mrs. Whatsit , Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which are magical creatures who can time travel and transform to different animals. They take Meg,  Charles, and Calvin, who they met because of Mrs. Whatsit, to another galaxy to show them where their father is. They find out that he is being held hostage by the leader of darkness and Meg and Charles need to get him out. They receive  help from Mrs. Whatsit , Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which to save her father.
Text to Self
The Miller's have been living in their house, but something hasn't been right. Their father went on a classified mission and was usually able to communicate, but they have not heard from him in a year and everyone think he has dies.  This Situation reminds me of a similar situation in my own life because Meg's father is AWOL and they have no idea where he is. It happened to me when my parents went on a cruise. Since they were in the middle of the ocean I could not call or text them so I did not know where they were or if they got there safety. I can kind of imagine what Meg is feeling, but it has been like that for a year now and she doesn't even know why he left.

Meg's father drew the short straw and had to wrinkle to a different planet and he has to battle IT and it is a very powerful mind that controls you with a tempo so everyone's breathing is the same and actions are all at the same pace. Mr. Miller has to make IT seem powerless and battle him but Mr. Miller is no where near as powerful and he gets trapped in IT's mind. "A Wrinkle in Time' reminds me of "Lily's Crossing" Patricia Reilly Giff in a way. When Lily's father was chosen and he had to move away for work purposes, and at this time Lily could not really communicate with him. It is the same way when Meg's father had to leave and at this time communicating was harder than it is today. The story is similar in that way, but Meg went to save his father and Lily had to wait for him to come back.
Text to World
"A Wrinkle in Time" reminds me of the time of Eisenstein when he was figuring out energy. The book does use Eisenstein's theory to help Mr. Miller discover the tesseract, which is a theory where you  can travel to a different universe.   Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who already know how to tesseract but it is very difficult to manipulate energy. Mr. Miller still struggles to tesseract but he is able to manipulate energy every once in a while. It reminds me of how Eisenstein had done a lot of research to influence others about he philosophy of science.
Conclusion
In this book, I love the way Meg was able to use her faults to an advantage. People make fun of her because of her anger issues, but when it came down to it she could resist the mind of IT because of it. I like the way the author made Charles Wallace misunderstood to other, this way Meg and Charles could understand each other. It made them closer together, which made Meg try harder to resist the mind of IT. I like the way they used Calvin as Meg's protector, Calvin really cared for Meg and he made a deep connection with Meg.

  1. Hello Madeline, I really like your summary. I like how you used text evidence to back up what were going to say. I think I'm going to have to read this book later on.

    Sincerely Emma
