Clockwork Princess

The Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare is about Tessa Gray, a shapeshifter, who with the help of her friends (William Herondale & James Carstairs) tries to escape the hands of Axel Mortmain. Mortmain has been wanting Tessa for the last piece of the puzzle to whip out the Shadowhunter race forever. Mortmain says that Tessa parents aren't who she thinks they are.  Though the Council can find no warlock mark on her, the question arises who where her parents? Was one a Shadowhunter and the other a Greater Demon or was one a mundane and the other a demon?
Jem reminds me of a story I heard about a girl who knew she was going to die. But she never let that get in her way. Jem life is slowly slipping away, he doesn't care. He is not afraid of death, he believes that after this life there will be a next. Somewhere much better than the world he currently lives in. Jem does not let his illness get in his way be still keeps up with Tessa and Will. He tries to be strong for his parabatai.
The scene when Tessa, Will, Jem, Sophie, Cyril, Gideon, Gabriel, Charlotte, Henry, Bridget, and Cecily all fought Axel Mortmain is Cadair Idris. Reminded me when Alec, Isabelle, Magnus, Clary, Jace, and Simon fought Johnathan Morgenstern on a boat in the East River. Tessa and Clary both have some special ability. Tessa is able to shapeshift into the angel Ithuriel, and Clary can create runes that aren't found in the Gray Book. They both are split between what is right and what is wrong. They fight to understand what is the true path for themselves and the people around them.
The events throughout The Infernal Devices series give a good look into what the late 1800s would be like. The book tells you a little about what edicute would be like, for instance, you would one call someone by their "Christian Name" a.k.a. their first name only if they were family or close friend. If not then you would us Miss whatever their last name was. Also what the clothes were like, women wore a floor-length dress with corsets (NEVER PANTS). Only men would wear pant and a shirt, and the usually would wear a long coat and a hat when outside.
The setting is extremely important because it gives you a sense of the time period as well as a respect for it. It is set in London and Cadair Idris which is very different from today. From the houses to how we talk. The story teaches us to love anyone we want, and not fear death and destruction for true friends will stick by your side through it all. It also teaches that some people have to make great sacrifices to protect the people they love. They may not seem the right choices to us but for the person and the people, they love it is.
